I can't find a trial Studio version - just posts that say that the free version *is* the trial version. Then stick with those for the time being. I have no good use case for the XAVC HS format, so will try all the 4k formats today and check which ones work. But I'd hope I could also get it working with the standard Windows players too. In fact I had just made up my mind to downgrade to DVR 16, since V17 has too many annoyances at the moment. I remember that lately you have to fork out to the studio version when using some of the professional codecs. Have you tried opening it with Davinci resolve studio version? Try downloading the trial studio version and see if it helps. I agree with pollup that you should try it with VLC player. Obviously I will try to record some video segments tomorrow in other formats, but does anyone have any advice how to get these higher-quality modes to work? Presumably I am missing a codec (this is as far as my knowledge of video goes at the moment). Tried to import them into DaVinci Resolve 17.1, but it only recognizes the audio tracks. WIndows media player and Windows Film/TV just hang when I try to run them (and I have to reboot to stop them). Pulled the clips onto the PC (WIndows 10), but cannot find a programme to play them. Ok, I had no particular reason to choose this format, but I wanted to see what a short movie might look like.
